Symptoms and behaviour

Eating, drinking, bathroom, or litter changes Energy level, hiding, restlessness, or pain signs Coughing, sneezing, vomiting, diarrhea, limping, scratching, or swelling Any new foods, treats, plants, toys, cleaners, or outdoor exposure

Pet history to bring

Age, species, breed or mix, and weight if known Current food, treats, supplements, and feeding routine Medication names, doses, and timing Vaccination, parasite prevention, and recent test history Past illnesses, surgeries, allergies, or known sensitivities

Questions to ask

What are the most likely explanations? What should I watch for after the visit? What would make this urgent? Are there reasonable options, and what are the trade-offs? What is the follow-up plan if symptoms do not improve?

Estimate and invoice prompts

Can I see the estimate before treatment starts? Which items are essential today and which may be optional? What costs could be added depending on test results? Medication, recheck, lab, referral, or specialist costs?

Before you leave

Confirm medication instructions in plain language Ask what improvement should look like and when Ask when to call back or book a recheck Confirm diet, activity, isolation, or monitoring instructions Keep estimate, invoice, and discharge notes
